Crude oil is one of the most important mined resources in the world, commonly processed into fuel for transportation and even household cooking. The countries with the largest oil production in the world have such high output that they can export to many others, as the oil industry has a major impact on the global economy.
As of 2024, the United States remains at the top of the list of the largest oil-producing countries in the world, with a daily production of 21.91 million barrels—around 22% of total global output. Apart from the United States, there are several other countries that also belong to the world’s biggest oil producers.

List of the World’s Largest Oil-Producing Countries
1. United States
The United States still holds the top position with a daily oil output of 21.91 million barrels, which accounts for 22% of global oil production. This growth is largely due to advancements in hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and horizontal drilling, especially in shale formations found in Texas and North Dakota.
2. Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia, as the leader of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), produces 11.13 million barrels per day, or around 11% of global production. With vast oil reserves and relatively low production costs, Saudi Arabia plays a key role in the global oil market and its trade strategies often influence global prices.
3. Russia
Another one of the world’s largest oil producers is Russia, with a daily output of 10.75 million barrels, equivalent to 11% of the global total.
Russia has vast oil fields in Siberia. Strategically located between Asia and Europe, it serves as a vital supplier—particularly to European markets.
4. Canada
Canada ranks fourth, though its production is about half that of Russia or Saudi Arabia. Canada produces around 5.76 million barrels per day, which is 6% of global oil production.
Canada’s oil primarily comes from oil sands in Alberta. Although extraction from oil sands is an intensive process, the country continues to increase its production capacity.
